Every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. Assembly Bill 849 (2019) requires cities and counties to engage communities in the redistricting process by holding public hearings and/or workshops and doing public outreach, including to non-English-speaking communities.
The public hearings were held at the City Council Regular Meetings on:
September 14, 2021 – Overview of the Redistricting Process presented
October 26, 2021 – Demonstration of the mapping tool to create community of interest maps
January 11, 2022 – Draft Maps A and B presented to City Council for discussion
February 8, 2022 – Draft Maps A, B, and C presented to Council for discussion. Council eliminated Draft Map A
March 8, 2022 – Draft Maps B, C, and D presented to Council for Discussion
Map D was adopted at the March 8, 2022 meeting as the Final Map.
