Earth Friendly Management Policy
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, The City Council adopted the City of Ojai Earth Friendly Management Policy.
The Earth Friendly Management Policy aims to mitigate the risks pesticides pose to human health, wildlife, and the environment by implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles. IPM involves a sustainable, science-based approach that integrates biological, cultural, physical, and chemical tools to manage pests while minimizing economic, health, and environmental risks. The policy establishes best practices for controlling pests on City-managed properties in an efficient, environmentally responsible, and safe manner.
Under this policy, City staff and contractors must first explore non-pesticide methods to address pest issues, such as removing food sources, sealing entry points, using non-toxic traps, employing beneficial insects, or maintaining landscaping. If pest problems are minor, no action may be taken. Pesticides are considered only after exhausting other control options.
