OJAI, CA (January 25, 2023) At its January 24, 2023, meeting, the Ojai City Council approved plans and specifications for the Citywide Street Rehabilitation Project, allowing the City to move forward in the process of completing more road improvements. The completion of this project will mark the fulfillment of the 2009 to 2022 Street Paving Project, and staff will begin to finalize the next five-year paving cycle.
“We are excited to complete the final plan, but we are also working on preparing a new paving cycle which will be more aggressive than the prior, we are really prioritizing street paving moving forward over the next five years,” said Ojai City Manager James Vega.
“This work is an investment in our community’s infrastructure. Taking a proactive approach to maintaining our roads saves time and money in the long-run; it contributes to the safety of drivers and the quality of life in Ojai.”
City staff will present the new, five-year plan to City Council in the spring.
A list and location map of the proposed streets for rehabilitation are attached. The City is starting the bid process, which will conclude in March 2023.
The project will be funded using a combination of local and other funding sources. $1.81 million is already reserved in the Capital Improvement Fund budget, including $1.2 million of the recent voter-approved Measure “C” (hotel tax) funds. These funds are a major contributor to the project moving forward, as over 60% of the allocated funds are from hotel tax.
The approved plans and specifications are available for public review in the City Clerk’s Department (805-646-5581 ext. 101).
